.Easter Morn —Email from Rev Drew Abernethy.

Kathleen; Kathleen S; Barbara and Florence… Oh how I long that you ALL may knock the very real presence of our Wonderful; Glorious, Risen Saviour this Easter Day… For tomorrow is……

Easter Sunday…The beginning of a new week. The celebration of a new age. The anniversary of the death of death
The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed. Jesus lives! He Lives For ever!
Because he lives – We too shall live.
This is the day to give thanks – And celebrate – And rejoice will all our being.
In the God who made us: In the Saviour who suffered for us.  Died for us.  And is risen again. AMEN  John Piper has written a little book just published in March of this year: ‘Coronavirus and Christ.’ (you can download it)  Page 50 of the Book.. He writes….‘Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Matt. 10:29–31)

Not one sparrow falls but by God’s plan. Not one virus moves but by God’s plan. This is meticulous sovereignty. And what does Jesus say next? Three things: You are of more value than many sparrows. The hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not.

Why not? In Christ we are not his dispensable pawns. We are his valued children. “You are of more value than many sparrows.”  This is the secret…. knowing that the same sovereignty that could stop the coronavirus, yet doesn’t, is the very sovereignty that sustains the soul in it.  And not only sustains, but sees to it that everything, bitter and sweet, works together for our good—the good of those who love God and are called in Christ (Rom. 8:28–30).That kind of rock-solid confidence in the face of death has emboldened Christ’s people for two thousand years. The truth of God’s wise and good sovereignty has been the stabilizing power for thousands of Christians in the sacrifices of love. The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed. Jesus lives! For ever! Because he lives – We too shall live.  Every Blessing your Brother and Sister in Christ Drew and Liz.

Email from Rev Drew Abernethy

Trust everyone is keeping well and staying in and yet admiring again and again the beauty of Donegal… the work of C = God is the Creator. Enjoy the beauty all around you. My thoughts and Prayers have been very with you ALL at this time. I have been reading through the Psalms and last night I was reading Psalm 31.. it begins with the words: ‘O Lord, I come to you for protection’ and it ends with these encouraging words ‘So be strong and take courage; all you who put your hope in the Lord!’  Then I turned to Psalm 33 and it ends with the words: ‘We depend on the Lord alone to save us. Only he can help us, protecting us like a shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we are trusting in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surrounds us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.’  The Lord is our refuge and strength in this time of crisis. Encourage the children to reflect on the letters of the alphabet … those greats biblical truths about our Almighty yet very personal God …

He is our Father and he is Near.  Like many through the land and like many in the ‘4 Churches’ I am confined to the house, family not near – Craigavon; Larne; Scotland and Sheffield…  food delivered but I am taking time to pray; to read and to contact family and friends.. those calls I said to myself I would make but never seemed to get round to. (do you know that feeling). Friends I do miss you ALL but I recall the words that I have often shared with you… ‘(My/Our) Faith is being sure of what we hope for and (very) certain of what we do not see.’

Stand Firm! Take Care! Every Blessing!      Drew and Liz.  Deuteronomy Chapter 31 verse 6

Email from Rev Drew Abernethy. Afternoon Kathleen and David…. how are you and everyone in Carndonagh coping in these anxious times. All of you have been much in our thoughts and prayers. Having come to know you all over the years part of me just longs to share with you and the good folk of the other Churches the sure and certain assurance that our Sovereign Faithful Loving Father God is very much with each one of you. Pass on to the folk of Carndonagh, especially the very vulnerable; our love and our promise that we will continue to hold you up before the A= Almighty. I trust that soon I will be back with you to share God’s Eternal Word.  Every Blessing Drew and Liz. Psalm 46:1ff.

Worship is not cancelled…..a different way to worship

Due to the current restrictions on worship services, many congregations are preparing for a very different form of worship this Sunday. Creatively using live streaming and pre-recorded messages via websites and social media platforms, Presbyterian Moderator, Rt Rev Dr William Henry will also begin a series of Sunday worship services for the wider Presbyterian family that will be available on the PCI websiteThe pre-recorded service, which will last around 45 minutes, will follow closely a usual Sunday worship service and will include a children’s talk and song, prayers, three hymns and Dr Henry’s sermon. The only element that will be missing will be the offering.

Speaking to the Church ahead of the virtual service in a short video posted on social media, the Moderator said that we were living in exceptional days, “While you are not able to meet in that place that has been so familiar to you, that place where God has drawn alongside you, I know that many congregations will be livestreaming their service of worship this weekend. The first in this series of Sunday services will be available on PCI website  and via PCI’s Facebook page on Sunday morning (22nd March)

The Taoiseach’s recent statement regarding measures to contain Corona virus and a desire to minimise social interaction to protect all worshippers and particularly those deemed most ‘vulnerable’, the decision has been taken to cancel church services and ALL church activities until further notice.

Corona virus measures

The Taoiseach’s recent statement regarding measures to contain Corona virus and a desire to minimise social interaction to protect all worshippers and particularly those deemed most ‘vulnerable’, the decision has been taken to cancel church services and ALL church activities until after 29th March.
